Internships: A Strategic Component of Student Professional Development

Internships represent one of the most impactful experiences in a student's academic journey, serving as a powerful bridge between classroom learning and real-world application. At Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, internships are more than just work experience—they are a cornerstone of the university’s commitment to graduate employability and professional excellence.

Bridging Academic Excellence with Workplace Readiness

Through internships, students apply their academic knowledge in practical settings, developing their professional identity, gaining industry exposure, and refining the transferable skills that employers seek. Internships enhance SUAD’s rigorous academic offering and are recognised as a vital form of Work-Based Learning (WBL), endorsed by employers and accreditation bodies alike.

Professional Growth and Employability

Employers consistently report high satisfaction with SUAD interns—with 98% of the employer partners expressing a strong appreciation for the professionalism, skills, and adaptability of SUAD students. University internship partnerships help students to:

Strengthen graduate attributes such as communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and adaptability

Expand their professional networks and gain industry insights

Increase competitiveness in the labour market and transition more effectively into employment

Whether part of a mandatory credit-bearing internship required by the curriculum or an optional placement pursued independently, all internship experiences contribute meaningfully to the development of workplace competencies and SUAD’s institutional performance indicators.
