Philippe Pétriat is Associate professor (maitre de conférences) at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University. He specialises in the history of contemporary Middle Eastern countries, particularly the economic history of the Arabian Peninsula. His latest book, The Last Caravan (Cambridge University Press, 2025), focuses on the history of the transformations of the regional common market from the Ottoman Empire to the construction of contemporary states in the region stretching from Turkey to the Gulf countries.
