CENTRE FOR HUMANITIES, LANGUAGES AND EDUCATION
The Centre for Humanities, Languages and Education explores the vital connections between language, culture, learning, and human values. By investigating how language shapes human understanding of the world and influences both individual and societal development, the Centre offers a rich, interdisciplinary perspective on education and the human experience.
Researchers engage in individual and collective research projects that span linguistics, literature, philosophy, law, and education. Humanities research at the Centre engages deeply with philosophical inquiry, from questions of ethics and political theory to the nature of knowledge and subjectivity. Legal studies are approached not only as systems of rules but also as cultural and philosophical frameworks that reflect and shape societal values. The Centre also emphasises the enduring power of literature—especially Francophone and Arabic literature—as a site for exploring identity, memory, and imagination, with a special focus on women, diasporic, and multilingual voices.
The Centre also investigates the evolving nature of educational methods, the preservation and revitalisation of languages, and the impact of multilingualism on social cohesion. A research hub on the didactics of French as a Foreign Language is currently being developed. Thus, by integrating insights from the humanities—including ethics, critical theory, and comparative legal studies—it develops educational models that are inclusive, culturally attuned, and responsive to the complexities of a diverse and interconnected world.
