السيرة الذاتية
Dr. Mai El Sawy, Ph.D., FHEA, is an experimental particle physicist with over 15 years of experience in high-energy physics, detector instrumentation, data analysis, international scientific collaborations and university teaching. She is a Fellow of the AdvanceHE - Higher Education (FHEA) and was awarded a prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Horizon 2020 Fellowship, one of the European Union’s most competitive research funding programs.
She holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Antwerp (Belgium), with research conducted at CERN on the search for magnetic monopoles in the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
Dr. El Sawy has worked with several major CERN collaborations, including CMS, MoEDAL, and ATLAS. Her research focuses on experimental particle physics, detector technologies, trigger systems, heavy neutral lepton searches, magnetic monopole searches, and advanced data analysis techniques. She has contributed to detector commissioning, performance studies, trigger development, and physics analyses within large international collaborations.
She previously served as a Postdoctoral Associate at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), where she was actively involved in the ATLAS experiment and detector performance studies. She is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Physics at Zayed University and a Part-Time Lecturer at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD), where she teaches Physics, Mechanics, Numerical Physics, Probability and Statistics, Measurements and Data Analysis, Quantum Mechanics, and Scientific Computing.
Dr. El Sawy has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications and has received international recognition through her contributions to CERN experiments, including being recognized as part of the ATLAS Collaboration awarded the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for its outstanding contributions to particle physics research at the Large Hadron Collider.
