Environmental Policy

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is committed to environment and sustainable development which has been one of the top priorities. This policy is to enhance the quality of life for all the stake holders and interested parties, now and in the future, with a focus on maintaining a sustainable environment that supports long-term progress. It focuses on preserving biodiversity and the sustainability of its resources, ecosystems and services; as well as integrating the considerations and objectives of environmental protection across all departments. 

Scope 

This policy applies to all members of the SUAD community, including students, staff, stakeholders, vendors, contractors, and associated support services. 

 
Objective 

  • Continuously improve SUAD’s environmental performance and to integrate recognised environmental management best practice into its operations. 

  • Reduce the consumption of resources and improve the efficient use of those resources. 

  • Manage waste generated from operations incorporating reduction, re-use and recycling in accordance with the principles of the waste hierarchy. 

  • Manage operations to prevent pollution. 

  • Give due consideration to environmental issues (such as biodiversity) and energy performance in the design, refurbishment, location and use of buildings. 

  • Ensure environmental, including climate change, criteria are taken into account in the procurement of goods and services. 

  • Comply as a minimum with all relevant environmental legislation as well as other environmental requirements to which SUAD subscribes. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Management shall provide strategic guidance, monitor and review the policy, and ensure that adequate resources are available. 

  • HSE/GSD shall ensure due consideration is given to environmental and sustainability in its day-to-day operations and consider life cycle perspective. Purchase shall encourage eco-friendly and green products. 

  • Students Affairs & Communications shall encourage students to engaging in environmental and climate change initiative. 

  • HSE/HR shall communicate and encourage staff to engage in environmental and climate change initiative.


Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD) management requires active commitment to and accountability for this policy. Line management has a leadership role in its communication and implementation, while also ensuring compliance.
