Thomas Richard holds a PhD in Political Science from Clermont-Auvergne University. His work focuses on identities and cultural issues in the Middle East, particularly in their conflictual dimensions. His dissertation was awarded by the 'Michel de l’Hospital' Prize and published by LGDJ-Lextenso in collaboration with the Presses of Clermont-Auvergne University under the title From Museum to Cinema: War Narratives in the Middle East.
He has presented papers in France and abroad, and has published articles on war memory, cultural representations of borders, and identity as seen through film.
His current research explores the relationship between terrorism and the filmed image, militant cinema in the Near East, cinematic circulation and hybridization, postcolonial memory, and museum practices in the Middle East. He has taught political science and film studies at Paris 8 University, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, the University of Lille, Boston University, and ICL.
