Abu Dhabi, UAE, 7 September 2026: In a recent interview, Karine Germoni, Head of the Department of French Studies and the Department of French as a Foreign Language at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, shared her perspective on inspiring students to learn French in an environment where English plays a dominant role. Her insights highlight the importance of innovation, intercultural exchange, and cultural engagement in making French more than a language to study — but a language through which students can communicate, discover and engage with the world.
"In the UAE, French has a real role to play as a language that brings cultures together. In such an international society, learning French not only provides access to a vast Francophone world, but also fosters curiosity, the ability to understand different perspectives, and the pleasure of reaching out to others. For me, this is precisely where one of the greatest opportunities for French-language education in the UAE lies."
