Legal Clinic

The Legal Clinic takes students out of the classroom and into the spaces where law is actually practised — and it is a one-of-its-kind programme in the UAE. Each semester brings a new edition, with a different set of partner organisations and activities, so no two cohorts have the same experience.

Students have engaged directly with lawyers from firms such as Al Tamimi & Co, Clyde&Co, King & Spalding, Hadef & Partners, Al Aidarous, among others, as well as institutions like FANR — the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation — ArbitrateAD, and IRENA. They sit with these professionals, see how they work, hear what their day-to-day looks like, and engage with real legal questions across fields ranging from corporate law and dispute resolution to nuclear regulation and environmental law.

What makes this particularly meaningful is that the editions are documented on the SUAD website by the students themselves — they write about their experience, in their own words — and the website also carries testimonials from both the partner organisations and the students.

That record of lived experience is itself part of what the clinic produces. What the clinic teaches that the classroom cannot is the texture of practice: how a lawyer thinks under pressure, how they advise when the answer is not clear-cut, and what legal work actually feels like from the inside.

Testimonials

Student testimonial

"Participating in the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Legal Clinic has been one of the most formative and inspiring experiences of my legal education. Through immersive sessions with leading law firms like Al Tamimi & Company and King & Spalding, as well as regulatory institutions like FANR, I had the unique opportunity to explore real legal work from corporate structuring and due diligence to nuclear law and dispute resolution.

Beyond the technical knowledge I gained, what stood out most was the access we had to practising lawyers and experts who openly shared their experiences, challenges, and advice. The opportunity to interact with international lawyers including one who spoke about her SQE journey and dual qualification was incredibly valuable in broadening my perspective on global legal careers.

This clinic gave me a clearer vision of my professional path, strengthened my interest in environmental and regulatory law, and confirmed my desire to work in a dynamic, international legal setting. I am truly grateful to have taken part in such a hands-on, forward-thinking initiative that connects students with the real world of legal practice."

Partner Testimonial

“It was an absolute privilege to help drive the Legal Clinic with Sorbonne and Al Tamimi Academy. Once the framework was mapped out and the roles of our fee earners were deployed, to be able to take a step back and see just how engaging and interactive the clinic was and what a wonderful experience the students were getting all via the talent at our Firm was simply magical.

This is a strong step forward toward greater things to come.”
