Description

This event will be held online and in person.

This is an international initiative by IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) Technical Activities Board (TAB), under the Distributed Online Technical Activities. Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is the local Hub for the Middle East region.

This initiative is intended to encourage globally distributed technical exchange through hybrid formats that combine online program with local in-person participation. It also aims to strengthen engagement in under-represented regions and support scalable models for future global technical activities.

For the ME region, our local event will take place on 21 October 2026 in Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, in the Marie Curie Amphitheatre. Participants will follow talks streamed from the international speakers online, and lunch and coffee breaks will be offered, giving students a good chance to network with peers and researchers.

Student Colloquium

As part of the event, we are organizing a Student Colloquium for Master students, PhD students and early-career postdocs. I would be very grateful if you could encourage your students and junior researchers to take part, either by attending or by presenting their work. This is a setting where they can gain presentation experience, receive feedback, and connect with others working on marine robotics, AI and related fields.

The Global Ocean Robotics Day has a special focus on strengthening engagement in under-represented regions, the event is a full-day marathon of talks by world-renowned experts in marine robotics.

This event aims to scale global technical exchange in the fast-growing field of marine AI and underwater robotics. Its coordinated hybrid format links 10 in-person local hubs around the world with free online participation. By connecting these hubs across time zones, we aim to lower geographical and financial barriers, encourage broad international engagement, and open access to cutting-edge research in ocean robotics.
