Description
Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is proud to host NUN, a powerful and immersive performance presented as part of the Year of Ocean, and marking its closing celebration.
Created by the renowned choreographer Alaa Krimed and performed by the acclaimed Sima Dance Company, NUN explores the profound relationship between human beings and the ocean - a cosmic mirror reflecting the complexity of life. Through expressive choreography, sound, and visual poetry, the performance reveals how the ocean embodies our deepest dualities: drifting and returning, life and death, loss and rebirth. Like the sea, the human soul is constantly reshaped by invisible currents, breaking and renewing itself in a perpetual cycle.
The title “Nun” carries ancient and universal resonance. In Mesopotamian and Egyptian cosmologies, Nun is the primordial ocean, the infinite waters preceding creation. In certain theological and philosophical interpretations within Islam, it also symbolizes the cosmic sea linked to knowledge, creation, and the mysteries of existence. Across time and cultures, Nun evokes beginnings, the unknown depths, and the hidden wisdom beneath the surface of the world.
With its spiritual depth and poetic vision, NUN invites audiences to contemplate our origins, our fragility, and our timeless search for meaning, reminding us that the ocean is not only around us, but also within us.
