About the challenge test
The FYS Challenge Test is offered to all Foundation Year in Sciences (FYS) students aiming to pursue their studies in Mathematics or Physics. It is held before the start of the academic year for students who wish to demonstrate their current mathematical knowledge and potentially progress directly to Level 1 without completing the FYS programme.
The test is designed to assess students’ existing understanding and problem-solving abilities. No preparation is required, and no previous sample exams or practice materials are provided, as the purpose of the assessment is to evaluate actual knowledge rather than prepared performance.
The examination duration is 3 hours and covers the following areas:
- Precalculus
- Calculus
- Linear Algebra
A minimum grade of 12/20 is expected for the candidate to be considered for possible direct entry in Level 1.
