The Foundation Year in Coastal and Oceanographic Applied Sciences and Technologies (COAST) is designed to prepare students for success in the Bachelor in COAST through academic, scientific, and language preparation, by:
- Strengthening academic English and study skills
- Building foundations in physical and chemical oceanography, earth and environmental sciences
- Introducing coastal and marine field expertise
- Developing geoinformation and geomatics skills
- Supporting progression into the bachelor’s programme
The Bachelor in Coastal and Oceanographic Applied Sciences and Technologies (COAST) is a multidisciplinary programme taught in English at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. It focuses on coastal and marine systems, climate change, environmental sustainability, and the blue economy. The curriculum combines geography, oceanography and geomatics with strong practical training in GIS, remote sensing, cartography, statistics, and field analysis.
After the Foundation Year, students progress into the Bachelor in COAST, where they deepen their understanding of coastal and ocean systems and apply advanced toots to real environmental challenges including:
- Coastal and marine ecosystems
- Climate change and hazard analysis
- GIS, remote sensing and spatial modelling
- Fieldwork, projects and laboratory practice
- Sustainable management of marine and coastal environments
