Dr Derek El Zein is a political scientist specializing in international relations, geopolitics, and comparative political systems. He holds a PhD since 2006 from Paris II and obtained his Habilitation to Supervise Research (HDR) in 2022. He is currently the Director of the Master’s program in International Law, States and Sovereignty (ILSS) at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. He also leads two programs at Université Paris Cité: the Master’s in Export Practices and Policies (PPE) and the University Diploma in Security and Safety of Public Spaces. His research focuses on contemporary transformations of the state in the international system, with particular attention to shifting power configurations, the circulation and contestation of international norms, and the strategic use of media in shaping geopolitical narratives and influence
