Bio
Dr. Arjen van Vliet’s research focuses on the physics of cosmic rays (high-energy particles from space), astrophysical neutrinos, and gamma rays. He investigates the propagation and origin of these extraterrestrial messengers and models their sources and the environment through which these particles travel. He is part of the Kilometre Cube Neutrino Telescope (KM3NeT) collaboration and one of the core developers of CRPropa, a public simulation framework for propagating high-energy astrophysical particles. He received his PhD in theoretical physics from Hamburg University, Germany. After completing his PhD, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Radboud University in the Netherlands. During both his PhD and his position at Radboud University, he was part of the Pierre Auger Collaboration, the world’s largest experiment for detecting ultra-high-energy cosmic rays. Afterwards, he joined the Astroparticle Theory Group at DESY Zeuthen, Germany, with a focus on the connection between cosmic rays and neutrinos. He began his current position as Assistant Professor in the Physics Department at Khalifa University in January 2022.
