Head of Student Affairs

Strategy

• Develop the Student Affairs strategy in collaboration with Line Manager, ensuring key initiatives are aligned to the University’s strategic plan and communicated to the department’s sections.

• Contribute to creating a global experience that fosters students’ personal and intellectual development, as well as the growth of their skills and competencies, within the Student Experience Division and in collaboration with the Academic Division. 

Leadership 

• Provide leadership to the Student Affairs department by setting and directing on the vision and mission of both the University and the department, to ensure that all direct reports are aware of what they are required to achieve and how they are performing against their objectives .

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the department providing guidance, encouraging teamwork and facilitating related professional work processes in order to achieve high performance standards.

People Development 

• Develop direct reports through setting individual development objectives, reviewing performance and providing ongoing formal and informal feedback and appraisal in order to maximize subordinate and divisional performance

University Life and Cultural Activities 

• Lead and oversee a diverse range of cultural, social, developmental and sports events and activities for SUAD students, ensuring that these programs are thoughtfully designed to cater to the personal development, citizenship, sustainability awareness, and the development of skills and competencies of both undergraduates and postgraduates, thereby enhancing their overall university experience.

• Supervise and oversee student trips, training programs, and student clubs, ensuring they provide valuable opportunities for professional development, professional growth, and experiential learning.

Student Housing & Administration

• Ensure the efficient provision of on- and off-campus student accommodation, including the processing of applications, allocations, management of accommodation facilities etc., and guidance for renting external accommodation, in order to provide a comfortable and safe living environment for students, as well as guidance for renting appropriated external housing.

Student Counselling & Well-being

• Direct and manage a comprehensive student counselling service that provides essential support for students’ emotional well-being. This includes offering confidential counselling sessions, crisis intervention, mental health resources, and workshops to help students manage stress, anxiety, and other personal challenges.

• Contribute to the support of students through peer tutoring, peer mentoring, and other initiatives. 

Liaison

• Liaise and coordinate with relevant internal and external parties at the appropriate levels in order to support the promotion and successful execution of the University’s Student Affairs department activities.

Budgeting

• Collaborate with Finance Department to develop an annual budget that aligns with the department's goals, priorities, and strategic objectives.

• Oversee the allocation of financial resources within the department, ensuring that funds are allocated efficiently and effectively to support key activities.

• Monitor departmental expenditures throughout the fiscal year and take proactive measures to control costs, address budgetary discrepancies, and reallocate resources as needed.

• Provide regular reports with accurate data required to build the departmental budget and assessment of its utilization. 

Policies and Procedures

• Develop and implement the Student Affairs department policies to ensure all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled and the records are properly maintained.

• Communicate the requirement of operational policies and procedures to direct reports and monitor their adherence so that work is carried out in a controlled manner

Reports

• Ensure that all departmental reports are prepared timely and accurately to meet University requirements, policies and standards

HSE

• Ensure OSH management is embedded into departmental processes.

• Assist in risk assessments, implement control measures, and ensure the reporting of hazards and incidents.
