Road Safety Policy

Purpose 

This Road Safety Policy outlines the health and safety measures Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi implements to control, limit, and minimise the health, safety, and environmental impacts associated with road users within SUAD premises. 


Scope 

This policy applies to all road users within Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, including students, staff, stakeholders, vendors, contractors, and associated support services within the community. 


Commitment 

SUAD is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This Road Safety Policy aims to create a safe environment on campus roads and parking areas, promote responsible road use, and reduce the risk of accidents. 

 

To achieve the objective, SUAD shall: 

  • Establish and clearly communicate speed limits for different areas on campus 

  • Ensure appropriate signage to indicate speed limits and enforce compliance 

  • Clear markings for crosswalks and intersections to guide road users 

  • Prohibit reckless driving behaviours, such as excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking and racing 

  • Pedestrian safety 

  • Conduct awareness and educational programmes to promote pedestrian safety 

  • Clearly define designated parking areas and enforce parking regulations 

  • Maintain adequate signage and markings to guide drivers to parking facilities 

  • Allocate accessible parking spaces for individuals with disabilities in accordance with applicable regulations 

  • Maintain a regular inspection and maintenance for university owned vehicles 

  • Provide driver safety training 

  • Establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with local law enforcement agencies 

  • Make necessary adjustments to address emerging safety issues and improve road safety measures 

  • Promote road safety awareness through campus wide campus wide campaigns and education


Responsibilities 

  • Management shall give strategic guidance, monitor and review the policy, and ensure that adequate resources are available. 

  • HSE /GSD shall post signs in a manner and location that adequately notify students, staff and visitors. 

  • The Student Affairs Department shall enforce appropriate consequences for students engaging in prohibited behaviour, in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Students who violate this policy will be referred to the guidance counsellor and, where necessary, other counselling or support services. Parents or guardians will be notified of all violations and any actions taken by Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. 

  • HSE/HR shall enforce appropriate consequences for employees who violate the policy, in accordance with personnel policies. Disciplinary actions may include a verbal warning, written reprimand, or termination of employment. 

  • Security shall request visitors to refrain from the prohibited behaviour, assist in restricting access to designated areas while on SUAD property, or ask them to leave the premises if necessary. 


Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD) management requires active commitment to and accountability for this policy. Line management has a leadership role in its communication and implementation, while also ensuring compliance.
