About the Library

Established in October 2006, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi library offers resources in the areas of Philosophy, Religion, Politics, Economics, Law, Language and Literature, Management, Art, Archaeology, Geography, History, Psychology, Mathematics, and Physics. The library also houses the Crouzet Collection, a private collection of books on economic history and the history of France and Great Britain that belonged to the late Professor François Crouzet. The university has also received a donation of 350 volumes of Collected Courses by The Hague Academy of International Law.

Policies 

  • Library Code of Conduct:  In order to provide an environment that is free from disruptive activities and conducive to quiet study, all library users are expected to follow the code of conduct outlined below. Failure to do so may result in sanctions, including but not limited to: being asked to leave the library, the loss of library privileges, or being reported to university management. (Policy 7) 

All library users should abide by the following rules and must not: 

  • Remove or attempt to remove library materials, equipment or property without having them issued or without proper authorisation 

  • Fail to return library material on or before the expiration of the loan period or when requested to do so by the library 

  • Consume food in the library. Only drinking water is allowed 

  • Litter in the library 

  • Smoke in the library 

  • Mutilate library materials by marking, underlining, or removing pages or portions of pages, damaging library materials or property in any way 

  • Be in unauthorised areas of the library, remain in the library after closing or when requested to leave in emergency situations or evacuation drills 

  • Open emergency exits except in emergency situations 

  • Open any window in the library 

  • Maliciously access, alter, delete, damage or destroy any computer system or software 

  • Conceal library materials in the library for exclusive use 

  • Fail to pay for lost or damaged library material 

  • Create any form of disturbance which interferes with the normal use of the library 

  • Act sexually offensive or verbally abusive towards other users 

  • Harass library staff or users 

  • Play music in the library 

  • Talk on mobile phones in the library. Phones should always be in silent mode 

  • Use the library computers for anything other than authorised purposes 

 

Library Opening Hours (Regular Semester Timings): 

Monday – Thursday: 08:00 AM – 10:00 PM 
Friday: 08:00 AM – 12:00 PM 
Saturday: Closed 
Sunday: 09:00 AM – 05:00 PM 

 

Library Closure Periods: 

Sundays during long holidays: The library is fully closed on Sundays. 

During Ramadan: Monday to Thursday: 09:00 AM – 05:00 PM / Sunday: until 03:00 PM (Policy 8.7). 

Summer Break: Monday to Thursday: 08:00 AM – 04:00 PM / Friday: 08:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

- Explore Our Collections 

  • Explore Books: Search our print collection of 97,000 + titles or 500,000+ eBooks by keyword, author, or subject. (Search our large print collection of more than 115,000 items by title, author, or keyword. Remember to use the filters (date, subject, language) on the side menu to narrow your search.) 

  • Journals & Databases: Access 45+ subscribed databases and 56,934+ eJournals. Filter by subject or provider. (If you are looking for a specific eJournal or eBook, please use this service to check if it is part of the library’s electronic collection. You can also browse eJournals and eBooks by subjects.) 

  • Special Collections: Discover rare materials like The Crouzet Collection (economic history) and The Hague Academy of International Law archives.

  • Borrowing Privileges (Policy 8.2) 

  • Undergraduate students: 6 books for 14 days  

  • Graduate students: 12 books for 1 month    

  • Full-time Faculty: 30 books for 1 semester   

  • Part-time Faculty: 6 books for 1 month   

  • Visiting Professors: 6 books for the duration of the mission  

  • Staff: 6 books for 1 month

  • WorldCat Discovery: Filter by language, format, or subject 

  • eJournals Finder: Browse by title or discipline. 

  • Databases A–Z: Browse the list of databases alphabetically, by subject, or by provider 

 

  • My Library Accounts: Renew and check your fines  
    Please log in to your Library account using your SUAD email address and password to view the list of items currently on loan and their due dates. Items may be renewed online once only. If a book is currently on loan, you may place a hold on it. You will be notified as soon as the book becomes available. 


  •  Expert Assistance (Policy 9) 

  • Research Consultations: Schedule 1:1 session with the subject librarian. 

 

  • Research Guides: Subject-specific help for assignments, dissertations, and faculty research. 

 

  • Citation Tools (Reference Management): Use RefWorks to manage references and generate bibliographies. 
    (RefWorks is an online research tool designed to help you manage references when writing and collaborating with fellow researchers. It organises, stores, and shares all types of information, and can instantly generate citations and bibliographies. To learn more, please watch “RefWorks Basic Functionality” video.  

 

 

  • Workshops: Register for sessions on database navigation, citation styles, and more.

Borrowing & Fines (Policy 8.6) 

  • Renewals: Online via My Account, in-person, or email. (My Account: Renew loans, place holds, and track requests) 

  • Fines: 5 AED/day per item (max 100 AED). Unresolved fines block grades/transcripts. 

 

Interlibrary Loan 

  • Document Delivery: Request articles not in our collection. (Policy 10.1) 
    If you would like to request an article that is not available in the library’s collection, please complete this request form (insert link). Before submitting a request, kindly check the Discovery Search to ensure the article is not available.  

  • Library Book Request (If you would like to request a book to be added to the library’s collection, please complete this form (insert link). Before submitting your request, kindly check the library catalogue to ensure the book is not available. Please allow sufficient time for processing and delivery. 


Study Areas (Policy 1) 

Do you like studying in groups? Nine group study rooms are available on the first floor of the library, which can be booked for your convenience. 

  • Group Rooms: Reserve 1 of 9 rooms (max 4 hours/day; ID required) 

  • Quiet Zones: Silent study areas; no group discussions

  • Copyright Notice: Scanning/photocopying must comply with UAE Federal Law No. 38 (educational use only)
