Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

Chaired by the Chancellor, the University Council serves as an advisory body, providing neutral and informative input to support the university's development. Its primary goal is to foster dialogue and collaboration between students, faculty, and administration to enhance academic and campus life. While it plays a consultative role in university matters, it has no decision-making power. The Council does not replace academic or administrative bodies, nor does it substitute for student clubs. 

SUAD is committed to maintaining the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility in all its operations. The University ensures that its financial management and reporting practices adhere to applicable laws and international standards.

All financial activities are subject to regular independent audits to provide an opinion on whether the university’s financial statements are presented fairly, in all material respects, in accordance with an applicable financial reporting framework.

As part of our commitment to good governance, we provide periodic summaries of our financial performance and key institutional achievements through annual reports.

Student clubs are highly valued at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and form an integral part of each student’s learning experience. They offer opportunities for students to explore and develop their interests and hobbies alongside their academic studies. Whether focused on science, art, culture, history, or social issues, students at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi will always find a club that reflects their passions. Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi supports and encourages students to participate in various clubs, the clubs include but are not limited to: Sorbonne Abu Dhabi Model United Nations Club (SUAD MUN), Debate Club, Women Empowerment Club, Mindfulness Club, Sustainability Club, Tolerance Club, and Emirati Culture Club amongst others. Through the clubs provided by SUAD, students can discover their strengths and use them to make college life more interesting. These clubs are closely related to the various courses of the university. Through these clubs, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is able to offer enhanced support to students and help lay a strong foundation for their future employment. 

In collaboration with United Nations UNCITRAL , the symposium featured two panel discussions with speakers drawn from academia, the legal profession, UNCITRAL, and technical experts, focusing arbitration and insolvency. 

This conference explored the evolving geostrategic landscape and its implications for air defence architecture, featuring distinguished speakers from the sector. The event addressed critical questions regarding the adaptation of military capabilities, the impact of emerging threats, and the role of innovation in defence strategies. 

In celebration of International Archives Day, the webinar "Archives and Records Management in Artificial Intelligence" explored the critical role of digital archives and records management in the age of AI, emphasizing their importance for transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. Proper data management, particularly within AI contexts, ensures information accessibility and reliability, supporting just and inclusive societies, while the preservation of records maintains historical accuracy, a cornerstone of just institutions.

This one-hour session delved into technology's utilization in enhancing archival processes, data management, security, and institutional efficacy, and also previewed the forthcoming Professional Certificate in Archives and Record Management at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, offering valuable insights for professionals across archival science, records management, and technology.

The eighth session of the seminar series in Records Management & Archival Sciences, titled "The Role of Archives in Promoting Human Rights," emphasized the significance of archives in safeguarding citizens’ rights. Speakers highlighted the crucial role archives played in documenting information essential for the protection of various rights, including economic, social, cultural, and political rights, aligning strongly with SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. A representative from the International Council of Archives (ICA) Human Rights Section elucidated the initiatives undertaken by the ICA to uphold the role of archives as guardians of freedom by advocating for human rights. Additionally, another speaker shared insights and experiences on utilizing archives to advance truth, justice, and reconciliation efforts, demonstrating the crucial role of archives in building just and peaceful societies.

With the exceptional presence of two former Chiefs of Staff of the French Navy – Admirals Alain Oudot de Dainville and Christophe Prazuck – the conference focused on geopolitical and maritime security issues, from the Indian Ocean to the Indo-Pacific.
